EAST WENATCHEE — An indoor pool session for kayakers will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Eastmont YMCA Aquatic Center.
The session will be an unstructured open time in which participants can practice rolls and other maneuvers in the heated pool. The cost is $6.
“I’ve heard from paddlers that we don’t have a pool in the winter. It’s pretty common in other communities,” said organizer Lance Reif. “A lot of people do this as a way to keep active and to stay in their boat. It’s also a way to get new people involved.”
Kayakers are asked to bring their boats and equipment. Reif said there will be some equipment on hand for those who don’t own a kayak but want to try paddling.
Reif said he would like to hold additional pool sessions in the future at the Aquatic Center, 980 N.E. Third St., East Wenatchee.
“It seems like the pool sessions are something lacking here, especially with the Wenatchee River being the most popular kayaking and whitewater river in the state,” he said.
