Velo Club sets bike helmet giveaway

WENATCHEE — Hundreds of children and teens in the Wenatchee Valley will soon be able to enjoy a much safer ride on VeloClubHelmet2their bicycles.

Wenatchee Valley Velo Club and Confluence Health will give away 500 bike helmets to kids and youth ages 2 to 17 during the upcoming Apple Blossom Festival.

The free helmet-giveaway will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 26, at Memorial Park during the festival’s Pepsi-Cola Youth Day. Read More

Tour de Beer back for Year II

WENATCHEE — When Tour de Beer was first organized a year ago, the idea behind setting up the outdoor beer gardens on downtown Wenatchee streets was to make the experience of watching the annual Tour de Bloom Criterium even better for spectators.

Mission Ridge buys land

WENATCHEE — Mission Ridge Ski and Board Resort purchased two parcels of land adjacent to the existing ski area in December 2014 and is looking to come up with a plan for the property.

“The opportunity to acquire the property came up quickly and we haven’t yet formed a plan,” said Mission Ridge owner Larry Scrivanich. “That said, the goal is to expand the resort into that area. Read More

WENATCHEE — It wasn’t long after Evan Plews had moved to Wenatchee in 2013 and had ventured into the Foothills for some mountain biking that Plews and his buddies came to a conclusion.

“We were like, ‘We have to have a ride here,'” recalls Plews.

A couple years later, that ride is square on the event calendar. On June 13, the inaugural Mission: GranDuro, a 47-mile mountain biking ride organized by Plews and Wenatchee North Rotary, is slated to take place in the Mission Ridge area. Read More

Trail running film fest coming to Wenatchee

WENATCHEE — Get ready for a good dose of trail running.

RunWenatchee and AdventureWenatchee will host the international Trails In Motion Film Festival beginning at 6 p.m. April 8 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center.

The evening will serve as the kickoff event for RunWenatchee’s annual Wenatchee Valley Trail Run Series, which begins with the Horse Lake Trail Runs in the Wenatchee Foothills on May 9. Read More

Lake Wenatchee nordic trek to be a bit shorter

LAKE WENATCHEE — This Saturday’s Moose Dewlap Citizen Trek is on, although the course has been shortened a bit.

Despite low snow levels throughout the Cascades, there is enough snow in the Meadow Creek area near Lake Wenatchee for the inaugural cross-country ski trek to go forward.

The length has been shortened from 26 miles to 16.5 miles and the official start will take place at the Fish Lake Sno-Park rather than at the Lake Wenatchee Recreation Club. Read More

LAKE WENATCHEE — When the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club decided last year to put an end to the Hog Loppet ski trek in favor of a new similar event at Lake Wenatchee, they did so after much analysis, thought and deliberation.

They knew Hog Loppet and its route between Mission Ridge and Blewett Pass were popular among Nordic skiers — and had been since the trek’s start in the 1980s. Read More

WENATCHEE — Registration has officially opened for the May 2-3 Arlberg Sports Tour de Bloom cycling omnium in Wenatchee.
The two-day event, held in conjunction with the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival, includes a hill climb between Squilchuck State Park and Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort, a criterium in historic downtown Wenatchee, and a road race on the Waterville Plateau in adjacent Douglas County.
