Highlights: The Leavenworth Fish Hatchery is home to the Icicle Creek Nature Trail, a popular birding site as well as winter cross-country skiing destination. Here you’ll most likely see Western Tanagers, American Dippers, Common Mergansers and many others. You’ll also find several bird nesting houses with descriptions of the species that use them. For the ultimate birding experience, check out the annual Spring Bird Fest, which is usually the third weekend in May in Leavenworth. The festival runs four days and is packed with outings, educational activities, arts and nature.
Best time to go: Year-round
How to get there: Heading west from Wenatchee on Highway 2, drive through the town of Leavenworth. At the far edge of town, turn left onto Icicle Creek Road. Follow Icicle Creek Road and watch for signs to the hatchery. It will be on your left.
