Icicle Creek Canyon

Best time to go: Early spring through fall

How to get there: Heading west from Wenatchee on Highway 2, drive through the town of Leavenworth. At the far edge of town, turn left onto Icicle Creek Road. Follow Icicle Creek Rd. to the many climbing spots between miles 3.5 and 7.6.

Highlights: Most of the rock climbing in the Leavenworth area is found in lower Icicle Creek Canyon, just a few miles outside of downtown Leavenworth. “The Icicle” offers several hundred routes, along with greater variety and better rock than Peshastin Pinnacles, making it an extremely popular climbing destination for all types and all levels of climbers. The hard granite and granite slabs often feature cracks that are perfect for climbing. Routes are found at Ski Track Formation, Mountaineers Buttress, The Keep Out, Snow Creek Wall, Bruce’s Boulder, Alphabet Rock, Givler’s Dome and Eightmile Rock. Several of these are within walking distance of each other.

Lowlights: Some of the routes are on private land or require crossing private land on the approach. There has been some tension between climbers and land owners so be sure to familiarize yourself with private and public land in the area, and respect the no trespassing signs. If in doubt, find another place to climb.
