Trail running is an excellent and adventuresome reprieve from road running — and particularly so in the Wenatchee Valley, which is encircled by the east slopes of the mighty Cascades.
Leave the sports watch behind. Breathe deeply and just run, experiencing the freedom and joy of trail running while being surrounded by the valley’s beauty.
Trails abound, not only in the more mountainous Leavenworth and Cashmere areas but also in Wenatchee, which is home to the wildflower-friendly Foothills Trails System. Topography ranges from flat and rolling near the valley floor to the more classic ups-and-downs deeper in the Cascades.
The opportunities are endless. Head out after work for a quick 3-miler in Sage Hills. Or make a day of it and link together the trails of the Foothills to get that long training run in before your next ultra. In the heat of the summer, head up toward the Mission Ridge Ski Area to run in cooler temps and take in the amazing views of the Columba River and the valley below.
What follows is just a taste of what the Wenatchee Valley has to offer in terms of trail running. Please note that these descriptions are meant to serve as an introduction, not as a super-detailed guide.
